Youth engagement

Factsheet – Involving Young People in a Just Transition | April 2024

2024

For carbon-intensive regions, decarbonisation is a project with major long-term implications and profound repercussions for local communities. That is one of the reasons why youth engagement is crucial for the decarbonisation process to succeed. It is the young who will have to live with the results of the policies put in place now, making it especially important that they play a role in shaping that future. It is also important to start doing this quickly. CINTRAN research found evidence of significant youth outmigration in many carbon-intensive regions, particularly in Estonia and Western Macedonia. In this fact sheet, we will discuss why youth engagement is important for the decarbonisation process, and offer some advice about how to do it well.
