This is the fourth in a series of short papers that the World Bank Group’s Mining Department is publishing to share some of the experience and knowledge gained through daily work with developing country policymakers, the mining industry, and mining communities and their
organizations. Over the coming years, as the sector expands, governments, businesses, and communities in many developing countries will face more and more complex issues and difficult trade-offs. We hope to see the “Mining and Development” series inform a wide range of interested parties on the opportunities, as well as the risks, presented by the sector.
