Bridging the Imaginative Gap:

Arts-Based Engagement for Just Transition Visions beyond the "Burden of the Now" | 2026

2026

This brief argues that for the transition to succeed, policy must shift from delivering pre-defined technical solutions to facilitating a “Shared Road to the Future”. By using creative, open-ended formats, actors can move from top-down consultation to genuine local ownership, allowing communities to navigate the transition as a continuous process rather than a fixed destination. Such transition processes will need more time and financial support compared to previous more technocratic top-down approaches – but will, in contrary to the other, have a much higher chance of local acceptance and therefore overall success.
