In CINTRAN, we identified a number of distinct strategies for trying to cope with decarbonisation, especially in carbon-intensive regions where local economies are highly dependent on coal, peat, oil shale, oil and/or gas. These are regions where decarbonisation stands to make an enormous economic and
social impact. This is a brief overview of one of these strategies – creating a Renewable Energy Community (REC). The document is designed to help you understand what a Renewable Energy Community is, and how it might help people from carbon-intensive regions cope with the social and economic
impacts of decarbonisation.
