Within this interactive webinar, you will get an expert overview of the inventory of coping strategies and what it means for numerous European coal+ regions. Thereafter, three panelists will reflect on their own experiences in Estonia (including the outmigration of citizens due to the historical disempowerment within decision-making processes), in Slovakia (about the need for effective policy across scales to ensure that citizens don’t lose faith in a just transition) and in Germany bottom-up resistance towards top-down initiatives can both delay or enhance the energy transition. The idea is to understand better how coal+ regions’ governments steer the way through the just transition, and how such decisions can both affect their communities and provide opportunities to shape of their own transition.
