Establishment of an energy community in Western Macedonia (Greece)

In July 2020, the former mayor of Kozani, Eleftherios Ioannidis, suggested citizens of the commune of Mavrodendri (Kozani province) set up their own initiative for the production of energy from renewable energy sources. In March 2021, a non-profit energy community was established. Its goal is to promote social and solidarity economy in the field of energy and energy sustainability, production, storage, self-consumption, distribution and supply of energy, as well as improving end-use energy efficiency at local and regional level.
