Coal mine closure in Moravia-Silesia (Czech Republic)
In February 2021, mining ended in two important mines in the Moravian-Silesian region: ČSA and Darkov mines. That year alone, their decline cost about 2.7 billion Czech crowns. Before the closure, the government approved compensation measures for miners, consisting of an eleven-month severance pay, either by agreement or in the form of a specific contribution. President Ivo Vondrák stated that miners would be employed in road construction in the Moravian-Silesian Region or in the planned construction of the Odra navigation facilities.
