Company restructuring in Germany
In 2015, Germany’s four major fossil fuel energy companies, RWE, E.ON, EnBW and Vattenfall, were facing declining revenues and the prospect of increasingly restrictive climate regulations. As a result, they undertook a host of measures designed to help limit losses and create new revenue streams. For example, RWE restructured its Advisory Board, and split off a new subsidiary to focus on renewables. E.ON split its operations into a renewables focused company with the original name, and Uniper, a separate company focused on fossil fuels.
These strategies were partially successful with the companies still in operation today.
