Investing in renewables in Western Macedonia
Proposals to install renewable energy infrastructure in Western Macedonia have developed in recent years with a view to replace lignite-based energy generation and create new jobs in this sector. The public energy company, PPC (Public Power Corporation), has been particularly active. Through its subsidiary PPC Renewables, it has made plans to invest in wind and PV plants. It also plans to use renewable energy as a complementary energy source in mines. It has also planned to construct infrastructure for district heating in the Ptolemaida power plant area.
