Reskilling in Ida-Virumaa, Estonia
Opportunities for workers to retrain through the Ministry of Social Affairs
In the Ida-Virumaa region of Estonia, the government has already authorised the use of reserve funds and is dedicating a portion of its Just Transition Fund allocation to the retraining of workers through the Ministry of Social Affairs. This is being rolled out through local Unemployment Offices. Workers are being offered programs to learn new skills and attempt to find new jobs.
The program is being met with mixed reviews. Many workers are generally interested in retraining but are pessimistic about the possibilities for work locally, regardless of the industry.
