Vonovia Energy Centre of the Future in the Bochum suburb of Weitmar
Local energy efficiency projects
Vonovia, Germany’s largest residential housing provider, has partnered with the Ministry of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia to upgrade a block of 81 flats with home energy efficiency retrofits, and decentralised solar energy. The upgrades are fully funded by Vonovia and free for residents. The retrofits include incorporation of heat pumps, and technology to create green hydrogen from excess renewable energy when it is available.
Vonovia is testing this process in order to help meet their carbon reduction commitments. The company plans to roll out finalised measures across their housing stock.
