Civic protests in Western Macedonia
Protesting against de-carbonisation and the implementation of renewable energy projects
Protest rallies and sit-ins are frequently used in Western Macedonia. Various civic movements and local authorities have staged protest rallies, as well as used other means of protest (such as petitions) in anti-renewable actions: for example, to oppose the construction of wind farms on local mountain ranges, or the implementation of solar projects on the surface of a local lake. More rarely, other NGOs have organized rallies against what they considered unfair distribution of EU’s Just Transition and Recovery Funds, and inadequate plans for land reclamation after the cessation of mining activities.
