Outmigration from Silesia, Poland
The population of the coal mining region of Silesia in Poland is shrinking. Between 2000 and 2017, the regional population decreased by 4.4%. The government has been incentivising workers to leave the coal sector, and the sector has generally been declining. This will increase with coal phase out plans so local and regional development plans will be important to minimise further outmigration.
